CHP and LED lighting investment for NHS Tayside

Hospital Energy

NHS hospitals in Scotland will use £15.4m of investment from Aviva and the Green Investment Bank to increase energy efficiency.

Energy efficient LED lighting and insulation will be installed at the Perth Royal Infirmary and Stracathro Hospitals as part of the project, which will be run by Vital Energi and is expected to cut energy costs by 10 per cent across NHS Tayside following completion in December 2016.

A combined heat and power plant is to be built at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee, which will provide 90 per cent of the power and 100 per cent of the heat consumed on the site.

Lord Smith of Kelvin, chair of the Green Investment Bank, said:

"Ninewells is already internationally recognised for developing innovative technology in its operating theatres and we are encouraged that the health board is also taking a pioneering approach to the way it produces and consumes energy,"
