Magnox announces Wyfla shutdown date

After 44 years of generating electricity in Anglesey, Wyfla Nuclear Power Station will enter a 100-day cooling down period on December 31 before full decomissioning begins.

Site director Stuart Law said the plant had generated enough electricity over its lifetime to effectively power every single home in Wales, every year since 1971.

The sites' workforce will be reduced to 350 by May 2016.
